Scuba Diving in Portugal
Portugal is known for its beautiful coastline and crystal clear waters, making it a popular destination for scuba diving enthusiasts. The country has a range of dive sites that offer diverse marine life and underwater landscapes, making it an ideal destination for both beginners and experienced divers.
One of the most popular diving locations in Portugal is the Azores, a group of volcanic islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The Azores are home to a wide variety of marine life, including whales, dolphins, sharks, and colorful fish. Divers can explore underwater caves, cliffs, and shipwrecks, some of which are more than 100 years old.
Another popular diving destination is the Algarve region in southern Portugal, known for its sandy beaches and clear waters. Divers can explore underwater rock formations, colorful reefs, and even encounter octopuses and seahorses.
Portugal also has a number of marine reserves and protected areas, such as the Berlengas Islands, which are home to a diverse range of marine life, including lobsters, crabs, and starfish. The waters around the islands are also home to a number of shipwrecks, providing interesting diving opportunities.
Scuba diving in Portugal is possible year-round, with water temperatures ranging from 15°C in winter to 25°C in summer. Most dive centers offer a range of courses and equipment rental options, making it easy for visitors to experience the beauty of Portugal’s underwater world.
