Porto City Hall: Where History Meets Governance
Porto City Hall The architectural crown jewel of Porto’s civic life
Câmara Municipal do Porto
A Journey Through Time
Built between 1916-1957, Porto City Hall stands as a testament to the city’s resilience. Designed by architect António Correia da Silva, its construction spanned political upheavals and economic challenges, finally opening during Portugal’s Estado Novo regime. The building’s 70-meter tower became an instant landmark, offering panoramic views of the Douro River and beyond.
Fun fact: The clock mechanism was crafted by the same Swiss company (Berner) that created London’s Big Ben!
