Trip itinerary & Stops

1 | Amarante

A small village with a huge cultural, historical and religious legacy; Amarante is one of the hidden treasures of northern Portugal. Being located between Porto and the unique landscapes of the Douro Wine Region or Trás-os-Montes.   Mansions from the 17th century line the river Tâmega. It runs through Amarante, their colorful wooden balconies stretch across the street. The Church of São Gonçalo , from the 16th century, occupies a particular place in the hearts of the locals. The Saint buried inside is considered to be a matchmaker.

2 | Mesão Frio / São Silvestre Viewpoint

The São Silvestre Viewpoint is located at the top of the hill with the same name. In this ancestral place, watching the sunrise represents a unique experience. The viewpoint allows a glimpse of a large expansion of landscape. It allows to observe the vineyards, the Douro River, as well as the valuable architectural heritage.  From here on the majestic buildings of the Mesão Frio village stand out.

3 | Peso da Régua

Peso da Régua is located next to the Douro River. It is the named capital of the demarcated region in which the well-known Port Wine is produced. Régua owes its development to the Marquis of Pombal who in 1756 created the Companhia Geral das Vinhas do Alto Douro. It is General Company of Upper Douro Vineyards.He ordered the delimitation with Marcos de Feitoria (granite landmarks) of the areas where the best wines are produced. The world’s first demarcated region thus appeared.   Since then, and because of its central location, Régua has become the centre of the region, a trading post from where the Rabelo boats transported the wine to Vila Nova de Gaia. There it would age in the cellars. (Possibility of lunch in a restaurant overlooking the Douro River - optional lunch with a cost 25€/per person).

4 | Visit to a winery & wine tasting (with olive oil tasting, too!)

Located in the heart of the Douro Demarcated Region, Quinta Seara d’Ordens exists since the middle of the 18th century. It is currently a reference in the production of high-quality Douro Wines and Port Wines. An exceptional terroir, in the heart of the Douro, a family watches over a centenary tradition! A unique experience branded by authenticity. (NOTE: tasting experience of wines, olive oils and commented tastings  - optional cost €20/per person);

5 | São Leonardo da Galafura Viewpoint

It is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the entire Douro region, the S. Leonardo viewpoint. Here Miguel Torga “dived” into the river and immersed himself in the magnanimous landscape of this “sublimated Douro”. It is called “excess of nature” in one of his “Diaries”. You will find an excerpt from the work of one of the greatest Portuguese writers of the 20th century on a stone. The Douro has a constant presence in it. Legends and stories about this region increase the charm of places around. One of the most beautiful locations in Douro Valley Tour is a mandatory stop for anyone visiting the Douro.

6 | National Road 222 (N222)

National Road 222 (N222) is one of the mythical roads in Portugal, with an impressive and beautiful vineyard landscapes in Douro Valley region. The section we are going to cross (between Peso da Régua e Pinhão) received the status of “one of the best and the most beautiful drives in the world”!!
