Cais de Gaia is the first must-go place to have a walk and enjoy the Portuguese atmosphere of the everyday holiday of sun and warmth in Vila Nova de Gaia. Along the riverside of Douro, you get a viewing platform on the Downtown of Porto that is 1.6 kilometers long. Besides, stunning observation angles on three bridges including Dom Luis I Bridge make this promenade one of the most popular locations for tourists all year round. However, this is not the only reason to visit the riverside. Ancient restaurants create a street of unrepeatable experiences in wine-tasting and gastronomic tours. Each of them offers you an impressive list of port wines to try. This is why Cais de Gaia is the best place for wine cellar tours and tasting in the Porto region. It is General Company of Upper Douro Vineyards. He ordered the delimitation with Marcos de Feitoria (granite landmarks) of the areas where the best wines are produced. The world’s first demarcated region thus appeared.   Since then, and because of its central location, Régua has become the centre of the region, a trading post from where the Rabelo boats transported the wine to Vila Nova de Gaia. There it would age in the cellars. (Possibility of lunch in a restaurant overlooking the Douro River - optional lunch with a cost 25€/per person).
