About

Founded on April 25, 1947, by Vicente Peres, SICAL began its journey towards becoming a significant landmark in Portugal’s coffee industry. Aiming to provide an exceptional coffee experience worldwide, Vicente Peres established the brand and a space for coffee importation in the heart of Oporto. This location still stands as a testament to its historical significance, attracting travelers and locals alike.

A pivotal moment arrived when Confeitaria Sical expanded to serve coffee for immediate consumption, solidifying its place as a cultural hub. In 1964, the establishment’s walls were enriched with vibrant tile panels crafted by Júlio Resende. The larger panel, featuring shades of blue, green, and yellow, depicts the journey of coffee from planting to enjoyment, while the smaller one creates a warmer ambiance with dominant yellow tones.

In 2017, the legacy continued with “Porto Ribeirinho,” an artwork by António Bessa, a former apprentice of Júlio Resende. This addition flawlessly blends past and present, reflecting the D’ouro’s artistic landscape and evoking nostalgia for boat trips and iconic city symbols.

Today, the modern atmosphere of cafe creates a perfect complement to Porto’s sophistication. The establishment, consistently renovated, holds contemporary appeal while preserving its original charm. TRAVEL iNTi highly recommends to the travelers to draw to its rich history that makes SICAL an important destination.
